"The Mighty Cure"
Narrative painter Lulu Yee creates a warm and
reverent mood in an exhibition of intimately sized oil paintings on
wood and one sculpture. This exhibit was selected from a series of
works made during the last two years depicting the artist's version of
a modern day retablo (painted offerings of thanks for miraculous
deeds.) The works were created in the US, Iceland and
Belgium. The artist's intention is to retell stories shared by
others who have experienced an inspiring event ranging from everyday
blessings we all share, such as watching a child take his first step,
to people overcoming such tragedies as a person being saved from a
burning house. The exhibition includes paintings for wall
hanging and a few freestanding paintings, diptychs and triptychs, with
hinged panels.
